How To Be Healthy: Discover Why Food and Exercise Aren’t Enough

Chances are you’ve been asking yourself that, otherwise you wouldn’t be dedicating your precious time to reading an article such as this. But don’t feel bad – you’re not alone. Not even close. In fact, the search term “how to be healthy” rakes in over 16 Million Google searches alone every month. That should tell something.

So, why’s everyone looking at how to become healthier? It should be really easy, right. Just eat more fruits and vegetables, cut out the fats, excessive sugars, stop drinking soda, and exercise more. If it’s that easy, then why are there so many unhealthy people in the world, suffering from sicknesses and diseases, or that simply just feel bad on a daily basis for no reason? There must be something else – something everyone’s been missing. But what – what could be causing a worldwide epidemic of UNHEALTHINESS?

You’re telling me MY THOUGHTS are the reason why I wake up every day feeling like dirt??! That what’s going on inside my head is 100% responsible for causing my physical body to contract illnesses and depend on pills and medicine? You’ve got to be kidding me.

But I’m not – and if you’re still reading this article by now, please continue. You have nothing to lose.

How can my thoughts make me sick?

The same way your brain sends signals to the rest of your body, whether it be to move your hands or feet, or even the simplest of actions like breathing – the thoughts in your mind have their effect on your body in one way or another.

“But I’m not thinking about being sick, so why am I sick?”

Because that’s not the way it works. You can’t simply “think” about getting taller and instantly start growing. (Although I did wish it worked that way.)

Sickness is caused by unhealthy thoughts/feelings that have taken up abode in ones mind. And no, this doesn’t happen overnight – look at it from the perspective of a seed that takes time to grow. The change is gradual, for however long the seed is watered and cared for. In other words, how long those unhealthy thoughts have been harboring in your head.

So, what’s an “unhealthy thought?”

One simple rule of thumb to be able to tell the “healthy thoughts” from the unhealthy ones is how it makes you feel. A healthy thought has the tendency to make you feel happy, hopeful, motivated, excited, and alive. An unhealthy thought does pretty much the opposite.

Unhealthy thoughts can also be cataloged as negative thoughts, or negative feelings. For example, you hate your job and wake up every morning dreading having to even show up. You despise all your coworkers, and have nothing but negative things to say about them. Those are all negative thoughts, and all contribute to sickness. You cannot expect to live a healthy life when that is your general outlook on life.

Or perhaps your spouse left you for another, and you continue to carry that resentment inside you. That’s also a negative feeling which also attracts sickness. Resentment that you keep within for any reason contributes to being unhealthy, and attracts other “unhealthy thoughts” or feelings to join it. Resentment, anger, hatred, pessimism, selflessness, and many more feelings like these are all unhealthy – and prolonged harvesting can only contribute to sickness and unhealthiness.

What can I do to “cleanse” my thoughts, and be healthy?

If you can relate to any of the thoughts/feelings listed above, you’re basically going to have to change the way you think. It’s not easy, but it is possible. Just like getting rid of a bad habit. It takes some time, but if you’re committed and understand the importance of generating positive thoughts and radiating positive energy – you’ll be able to do it.

Thinking positive is much harder than it sounds, specially if you’re used to seeing the cup half empty. But be assured – it’s vital in order to live a healthy lifestyle.

You might say, “Oh, but how can I be happy and think positive about a job that I hate?

It’s not easy, but you’ll have to start by looking for the things about your job that you don’t hate. Like the fact that it pays the bills, or maybe you’re providing an importance service to the community. But most importantly, replace the thought of “I hate my job” to “what do I need to do to get the job I really want.” And visualize yourself doing what you want to do. It’s a lot like the power of attraction.

In other words,

Stop dwelling on thoughts involving what you don’t want, and replace them with thoughts about what you do want.

That’s the first step in your transition to positive thinking.

And give thanks for what you do have – To God, The Universe, Mother Nature, or whoever you believe in. But always give thanks, and show gratitude not just for what you have, but for what you are yet to receive.

Also, show kindness to others. We live in a world filled with hatred and violence – don’t contribute to it by adding more. Be as kind as you can to those around you, smile, open doors, and lend out a helping hand whenever given the opportunity. You might not think so, but it does make a significant difference.

If you start thinking positive and harvesting good thoughts and feelings, you’re well on your way to becoming healthy again. Remember,

“Good health starts in the mind.”

Of course, eating healthy and exercising is just as important thinking positive. You can’t expect to become healthier by simply thinking positive thoughts if you’re dining out at McDonalds every evening and your “exercise” is your walk to the bathroom.

This article is only a grain of salt compared to all the other invaluable resources available, which is why I recommend reading a good book that will help you reinforce your positive mental attitude, and get you going in the right direction.

Change Your Thoughts – Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the Tao by Dr. Wayne Dyer is an incredible book that will help you get your mind in the right track. It costs about the same as a Burger King combo meal, so there’s really no excuse not to get it. I also recommend The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. I read this book while in high school, and it really made a difference in the way I looked at things from then on.
